Gooseberries – that may be green, yellow or red – are in season from mid June till the end of July. Aside from the sweetness, the gooseberry possesses a slightly acidic character – a combination of sweet and sour that offers great variation both when consuming while fresh or when used as an ingredient. The berries’ contents show a large amount of vitamin C – only 150 grams cover the recommended daily intake – and a fiber called pectin, as well as the contained acids ensure healthy bowel functioning.
